It was a great idea while it
lasted. The local folks were all for it, but the folks in Nashville
decided the potential liability was just too great. Thank you
for all the support and encouragement. We'll keep trying to find
a different solution, but this option is off the table for now.
Johnson Lane Recreational
Complex
The new fields at the Johnson
Lane Recreational Area (JLRA) are almost done. TSA will open its
first season there starting August 30, 2008 with the Fall
2008 Play Day. We have lots of work to do before then, so be watching
for announcements on the Turnover Tour and a couple of upcoming
work days.
There was on option bid on
lighting the fields at JLRA that wasn't used, but is still available.
By utilizing a 7 year lease-purchase agreement we can light all
4 fields for just $60,000/year. The lights would have a guaranteed
light output for 25 years. The payments wouldn't start until next
budget year, so no changes would have to be made in the present
year's city budget.
It also would not affect the debt load for the city. If you like
this idea and think we should get the lights now before the cost
goes up and get them installed now before we start playing on
the fields then let your Mayor and Aldermen know! The new fields
at JLRA are a great addition, much appreciated, eagerly anticipated,
and taking the next step would finally let us host tournaments,
expand our utilization of the fields, remove our need to beg for
football and baseball fields in November, February, and March
just to get lighting, and keep us moving forward to the realization
of the complete JLRA dream!
